Collaborating with director Hisonni Johnson, Wong transformed her personal experiences and desire for broader Asian male representation into a film that adds new dimensions to Asian cinema, showcasing the complex realities faced by Asian Americans beyond the conventional roles offered by Hollywood.

Hisonni, a Guyanese American filmmaker from Milwaukee, WI, is known for his compelling narratives that explore themes of love, financial security, and self-discovery. Since entering the film industry in 2013, he has garnered acclaim for his multifaceted role as a writer, director, editor, and producer, achieving awards from over 100 festivals, including notable ones like Cinequest and Hollyshorts. His work, including the widely recognized film “Take Out Girl,” has not only won awards from festivals such as The Bentonville Film Festival and Dances With Films but also earned him the title of Best Director at the American Black Film Festival. Hisonni’s projects, celebrated for their impact and reach, have accumulated millions of views online, highlighting his significant contribution to the digital and cinematic worlds.
